The History of Benton City

Since the town was officially incorporated in July 1945, the town of Benton City has remained a well-known and much-beloved city. Because of the communities close proximity to the non-incorporated city of Kiona, the two are often mistaken as one. In a number of cases the two fall into the same districts as is the case with their educational system.

What is the City Like?

The city of Benton City is a small town, with a population of slightly over 3000 people. Located in the heart of Benton County, the city is home to a number of well-known and tourist-attracting events, including, a number of antique car shows, and Benton City’s annual Winterfest. In addition to the numerous events that Benton City plays host to every day, it is also home to a number of popular and well-known landmarks, including, Kendall Barn, and Brown’s Rock.

Real Estate in Benton City

The real estate market in Benton City is currently experiencing a boom. Because Benton City, like several others in the Tri-Cities area, cater greatly to the wine industry, the increase in viticulture and winery jobs that have developed in Benton City have created a demand for real estate in this small city. Houses in Benton City range in price and style, with properties starting at around $80,000, the range increases to approximately $660,000, with the average property selling for approximately $264,785. Because the prices in Benton City are fairly affordable with the top end coming in at under $800,000 the city has experienced an even higher demand for real estate properties than other nearby areas that also cater to the wine industry. In terms of style, the houses in Benton City include traditional two-story family homes, split level ranch and bungalow style houses, as well as duplexes, and townhomes.

The Benton City School District

Because of the size of the city, and it being home to such a smaller amount of residents, the city actually shares a school system with the nearby city of Kiona. This school district is home to a number of schools ranging from pre-kindergarten all the way up to high school.

The Economy in Benton City

Like a number of communities in the Tri-Cities area, Benton City is very much a wine town. That is to say, that the majority of work for local and nearby residents has to do with the wine industry in some way, whether it be in the viticulture, the development, or the business management side of it. Other popular industries in the area include food and beverage as well as tourism. Both of these industries are very much reliant on the strength of the local wine industry, with much of the tourism involving visits to the local wineries.
